The few of us from the Culture & Education Programme Division headed to our Director’s (Mr. Lee Pak Sing) house to give our utmost support for Singapore swimmer Tao Li!

We were biting our teeth and hoping the best for the 18-year old swimmer, who became the only Singaporean ever to qualify for an Olympic swimming finals yesterday. It was a double victory! While being qualified for a place in the finals, Tao has also set a new Asian record with a time of 57.54 seconds!

The results for the Swimming Women’s 100m Butterfly Final are out! Tao Li had secured the 5th place in the finals, which I thought our country would be extremely proud of her! I mean she’s ranked 5th in the WORLD, at just the tender age of 18.

Tao’s timing for the Women’s 100m Butterfly was 57.99 seconds. It was only behind by 0.45 seconds in the 100m butterfly heats. Still, could you beat that? She was just 1.26 seconds behind Australian swimmer, Lisbeth Trickett, the winner of this event.

The YOG team is definitely giving our 101% support to the Singapore athletes who will be participating in the upcoming games.
